Massage TherapyAbout Massage Therapy

Massage treatments involve working the soft tissues of the body, to help ease day - to - day stresses, muscular tension, promote general well-being and relaxation. It can help to increase the delivery of blood and oxygen to the treated areas. As with all massage treatments your therapist can concentrate on specific areas of the body, or problem areas. The pressure and technique will be adapted to suit the client's individual needs and preferences.

Swedish Massage involves working the soft tissue of the body, to ease day-to-day stresses and muscular tension, and promote relaxation. This is a very calming, flowing treatment with slow rhythmic movements. The therapist works directly on your skin with either oil, cream or balm, using their hands and forearms.

Swedish massage differs from more specialised treatments as it is all about relaxation of the mind and body. A deep tissue involves more pressure and works on the tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding the bones, joints) as well as muscles. If you would prefer a more specific massage to treat chronic pain and postural issues, please take a look at our new Advanced Clinical Massage options.

Reflexology is a complimentary therapy that has been known to promote a deeper sense of relaxation. It can help you to become more in tune to your body's needs and encourage healing.

Reflexology is based on the principle that reflex points on the sole, tops, and sides of the feet correspond to different areas of the body. In this way, the feet can be seen as a ‘map’ of the body. By applying specialised massage techniques to specific points – using the thumbs, fingers and knuckles – aim of a reflexology treatment is to help restore balance to the body naturally, and improve the client’s general well-being.

What to expect in a 60 minute appointment:

Jo will start by doing a consultation with you, asking about your health and lifestyle, to ensure reflexology is right for you.

For the treatment itself you will remain fully clothed, simply removing your shoes and socks and sitting comfortably in a reclining reflexology chair. Jo will then gently cleanse your feet before applying balm to the skin and massaging into your feet and ankles.

The areas treated and the pressure applied will be adapted to suit your individual needs.

Benefits of reflexology

Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety, tension and reduce mental stress. Encourage relaxation, and improve mood and aid sleep, Some people use it to help them cope with more specific health challenges.
