About Upchurch

Upchurch is a picturesque village and civil parish located in the Swale district of Kent. situated around 2 kilometres north of the A2, it lies between Rainham and Sittingbourne, offering a blend of rural charm and accessibility.

In 1950, a collection of 37 ancient Roman coins were unearthed, locally dubbed “the Upchurch hoard”, highlighting the village’s historical importance, and giving history lovers another reason to visit Upchurch. The village is also known for its unique St. Mary the Virgin Church, featuring an unusual ‘candle-snuffer’ steeple. Underneath the 14th-century church lies a small crypt, historically used as a charnel house when the churchyard was full.
